Tea Party-Republican Win Can Defeat Healthcare Bill
(Santa Barbara, CA – 01.10.10) Santa Barbara Tea Party joins the national tea party movement in recommending support of Massachusetts State Senator Scott Brown (Tea Party Republican), who is running for US Senate from Massachusetts (to replace E. Kennedy). The election is a week away, Tuesday, January 19. Sen. Brown’s win would end Democrats’ 60 vote super majority domination of the US Senate.
Latest polls show Sen. Brown one point ahead of the Progressive Democrat running for the seat. Financial help is needed for the necessary last minute blitz. Any amount $15 and up has the potential to put a tea partier in the US Senate and a fatal crimp in the Healthcare Bill.

CA Petition Battle 2010: Will Citizens’ ‘David’ Slay Unions’ ‘Goliath’ with a Pen?
| The “grassroots” Campaign in California launches a statewide petition drive for a 2010 ballot initiative to stop mandatory payroll deductions from public employees for political activities, which is a Mother Lode for union clout. |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SBTP and other tea parties in California are packing their core principles of fiscal responsibility, individual liberty and a free-market economy into the pages of a petition to break the grip of public sector unions–and their war chests–on statewide politics and preferences.
According to a Dec. 4, 2009 article by Dan Walters in the Sacramento Bee, 37 initiatives are cleared for signature-gathering in CA with 44 more awaiting title and summary by the Initiative Coordinator in the Office of the Attorney General.
“The unions want to strangle two pending measures, one barring public payroll deductions for political activities (a California version of an Idaho law that recently won Supreme Court blessing) and the other overhauling public worker pensions,” Walters writes, “but the groups sponsoring the two are immune to direct retaliation.”
The tea party coalition wants to take taxpayers out of the unions’ game of ”paycheck politics” in CA and join Ohio, Utah and Idaho, which passed statutes targeting the issue. (In Idaho, the unions for teachers, fire fighters, the state AFL-CIO and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) took their appeal to the Supreme Court of the United States largely on the grounds that the initiative violated the public employees’ First Amendment right of free speech. SCOTUS upheld the Idaho statute.)
“What can you do to make government accountable to its citizens, not the unions? Support the Citizen Power Initiative to cut off the flow of taxpayer funds to public employee unions and the politicians who do their bidding.
Steven Greenhut, author of “Plunder! How Public Employee Unons are Raiding Treasuries, Controlling Our Lives and Bankrupting the Nation,” agrees with the position.
“Now, public employees get higher average pay, far higher benefits and many more days off,” he writes in a Nov. 23, 2009 article (”Plundering California”) in the City Journal. “They have also obtained greatly reduced work schedules, thus limiting public services even as pay and benefits shoot ever higher.”
Three of the top 10 all-time political donors (1989-2010) are public employee unions according to www.opensecrets.org, the web site for the Center for Responsive Politics.
The American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) contributed 98-percent of its nearly $42 million to Democrats; the National Education Association (NEA) gave 92-percent of about $30 million to Dems and the Service Employee International Union (SEIU), with its strong ties to ACORN, gave 95-percent of nearly $28 million to Democrat issues.
Those figures do not include the unlimited soft money (from the treasuries of corporations and labor unions) to 527 tax-exempt organizations, which engage in political activities such as issue ads that promote or criticize a candidate’s record.
The SEIU tops the list of contributors to 527 organizations in each of the last two federal election cycles (2006 and 2008) and leads the pack for 2010, according to data IRS data posted on the Center for Responsive Politics web site.
The Golden State is the “Golden Goose” for public union coffers, especially the SEIU, California Federation of Teachers (the local arm of the American Federation of Teachers) and the California Teachers Association (affiliated with the NEA).
The NEA is the nation’s oldest and largest teachers union with mega politcal clout and the purse strings to prove it.
In 2005, the NEA gave $65 million to left-liberal groups including Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and Amnesty International, according to an editorial (Jan. 3, 2006) in the Wall Street Journal. (What made the disclosures possible were then new federal rules pushed through, despite union litigation, by Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, which required large unions to disclose in more detail how they spend members’ dues.)
“They (the new rules) expose the union as a honey pot for left-wing political causes that have nothing to do with teachers, much less students,” the WSJ editorial states. “It’s well understood that the NEA is an arm of the Democratic National Committee. (Or is it the other way around?) But we wonder if the union’s rank-and-file stand in unity behind this
laundry list of left-to-liberal recipients of money that comes out of their pockets.”
In 2007, the NEA spent $80.5 million of teacher’s dues on left-liberal groups including Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), the National Council of La Raza, the National Women’s Law Center and 18 ballot initiatives in more than 10 states. Likely some of the California Teachers Association’s dues went to its NEA “mother ship”. In 2004, the CTA put $971,325 into political contributions. (See www.Unionfacts.com a project of the watchdog group Center for Union Facts in Washington, DC)
Other non-statewide unions for unified school districts in Oakland, Sacramento, Long Beach, San Diego and Los Angeles are counted separately from the tandem nationals, the NEA and the AFT, which top donors with corporate names.
Mike Antonucci, the director of the watchdog group Education Intelligence Agency (www.eiaonline.com) put the NEA political contributions for 2007-08 in perspective:
“America’s two teachers’ unions outspent AT&T, Goldman Sachs, Wal-Mart, Microsoft, General Electric, Chevron, Pfizer, Morgan Stanley, Lockheed Martin, FedEx, Boeing, Merrill Lynch, Exxon Mobil, Lehman Brothers, and the Walt Disney Corporation, combined.”
So far, the first endorsements are from conservatives: the Orange County Register newspaper and State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine), a candidate running against Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA).
SBTP Declares December 20, 2009 Democratic Senators’ Day of Shame
(Santa Barbara, CA – 12.20.09) December 20, 2009 went down in history as a Day of Shame, as Senate Democrats muscled and bribed Senators to vote for Cloture that brings the unpopular Healthcare Bill to the Floor for Debate. Bribery by the Majority Party included use of taxpayer funds. Senators who voted for it after receiving special favors included Patrick Leahy (VT), Bill Nelson (FL), and Mary Landrieu (LA). Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska received the most impressive gifts for his vote: Free Medicaid for his state in perpetuity. Many judicial scholars say it is unconstitutional.
As Minority Leader Mitch McConnell pointed out, the 2,014 page bill was assembled in secret by the Majority Party and was only available for reading by Congress and the public for under 24 hours. The Roll Call vote passed 60-40 with all Republicans voting Nay.

Central America Submits Amnesty Demands to US Congress – Demands Supported by US Unions & Progressive Organizations
(Univision Reports – Translation) December 18, 2009, 02:10 pm ET
San Salvador, Dec 18 (EFE) .-The Central American countries will present next year to the U.S. an immigration reform proposal focused on comprehensive care for thousands of immigrants from the region, Salvadoran Foreign Ministry announced today. “For the first time Central America will have its own immigration reform instrument, which responds to the needs and aspirations of Central Americans living illegally in the U.S.,” said Vice Minister for Salvadorans abroad, Juan Jose Garcia. The initiative, led by El Salvador, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic with the support of Central American Integration System (SICA), is in “consultations” with Nicaragua and Costa Rica and seeks to add the support of Panama, Belize and even Mexico, which, Garcia said, showed “strong opening” over reform.
“From now on, Central America will sit at the table of dialogue and negotiation with a tool that allows us to have an impact,” the deputy minister in a meeting with the press, saying that they have the support of organizations and unions U.S. Garcia said that “the commitment of the region is the defense and promotion of human rights of immigrants.” The proposal provides for a fine to immigrants who stay illegally in U.S. and to enable a fund to finance the immigration reform process, in addition to being granted “facilities” to reunite families and beneficiaries to protect their rights. It wasn’t confirmed the date on which the initiative will be presented, then, according to Salvadoran Foreign Minister Hugo Martinez, are “calibrating” the “best time” and the “level” to make it known next year, but did not rule out made during a visit by President Mauricio Funes who is “pending.” Nor was it informed if this proposal would benefit many Central Americans, but Garcia said that in the case of Salvadorans would cover between 750,000 and 1,100,000 U.S. National “This is an approach to comprehensive immigration reform, in the sense that not only is it the responsibility of the U.S. Government to implement reform,” he said. “The region is also willing to create conditions to make immigration a choice of life freely assumed and not a necessity dictated by external factors, complemented Garcia. SICA Secretary General, Juan Daniel German, highlighted this effort as a “step in the right direction.”
“It’s an innovative step, brave, very sensible and very responsible,” he said, as Guatemala’s ambassador in El Salvador, Silvia Caceres, stressed that “Central America is united” to get their citizens with a legal immigration status. Democratic leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives filed on 15 December a “historic” initiative for comprehensive immigration reform to allow the legalization of millions of immigrants, but for now, no Republican support. According to Foreign Minister of El Salvador, there are “plentiful coincidences” between both initiatives. “We are glad we agree with the proposed strategic lines of the Congressman,” he said, for his part, Garcia.

SBTP Joins National Day of Prayer on December 16, 2009
(Santa Barbara, CA – December 16, 2009) – SBTP joins with tea parties nationwide in a Day of Prayer today. A statement released to the press, the nonpartisan group noted, “In view of the attacks on our freedoms by the current Administration, we are suggesting that our fellow Americans ask for God’s help in defeating Socialism and oppressive taxation. America’s history that took place in the month of December : the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773, and the Ratification of the Bill of Rights on December 15, 1791. We are participating in the Day of Prayer as a tribute and in concert with the objectives of two important historical events in America’s history: the Boston Tea Party and Ratification of our Bill of Rights in 1791.”
SBTP Celebrates 236th Anniversary of Boston Tea Party with Holiday Meet & Greet
(Santa Barbara, CA – December 10, 2009) SBTP & Culpepper Society will celebrate the 236th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party at their Christmas Party on December 16, 2009. The 1773 event is considered to be the beginning of the American Revolution.
236 years ago to the day, a large band of Sons of Liberty dressed as Mohawk Indians boarded the three ships in Boston Harbor carrying tea – the Dartmouth, the Eleanor, and the Beaver – and dumped tons of tea into the sea. The rebellious act resulted from built-up resentment of the colonies toward what they called a “tea tax:,” which allowed the East India Company to undersell the 13 colonies’ tea.
Anger had been building over the years, as taxes and tariffs were imposed by an imperious Great Britain, who refused to listen to America’s concerns. Colonists became increasingly outraged by the Sugar Tax of 1764, which taxed sugar, coffee, and wine; the Stamp Act of 1765, which put a tax on all printed matter (from magazines to playing cards); and the Townsend Acts of 1767, which placed a tax on items like glass, paints, paper and tea. The Tea Act of 1773 was the final straw; it sparked a willingness to take action to achieve freedom and lead to the American Revolution.
In 2009, Tea Parties throughout America are concerned about escalating taxes and loss of freedoms, including from the Administration’s Stimulus Plan, Czars, Healthcare Bill, Death Tax and Cap & Trade. Thousands of these nonpartisan groups will commemorate December 16 with ceremonies, such as candlelight vigils. SBTP & CS Members are getting together on this special day to enjoy holiday good cheer with fellow tea partiers.

What is Cap & Trade?
(Santa Barbara, CA – 11.25.09) Today, America is embroiled in a debate over climate change. One troubling result of climate change hysteria is Congress’s “Cap & Trade.” This legislation aims to cut man-made carbon emissions + other greenhouse emissions (water vapor), even though they aren’t pollutants and represent under 1% of the atmosphere.
How does Cap & Trade work? First, the Cap is the limit of carbon allowances a company/group can have. Then a permit/license is issued by the EPA Czar which states the exact allowance each company is allowed. Companies that can reduce their carbon emissions can sell credits to companies that have trouble reducing their emissions. For example, if company A cannot get its limit low enough, it would buy carbon credits from company B, as long as B’s emissions are below its Cap. The “Trading” is done on “Carbon Trading Exchanges,” where payment is made for extra carbon that lets a company go over its cap. Like Wall Street, the trading companies make a profit off every transaction.
Why is Cap & Trade bad? First, it is a scam of global proportions that enriches elitists and betrays Americans. The only winners are big government and the carbon mafia. (ex: Al Gore’s GIN) Second, it would act like a huge tax increase that would lead to inflation, due to the increase cost of products and services. Third, because 85% of US energy derives from CO2 emitting sources, C&T would lead to cuts in energy, loss of jobs, a weaker economy and a shrinking GDP. On a personal level, the EPA Czar wouldn’t let anyone sell/buy a home without a license that showed compliance with energy and water efficiency requirements.
Cap & Trade is bad and must be stopped. What Can You Do? Help your Fellow Tea Partiers defeat this Bill.
“Americans & the World Can Exhale Again”
Santa Barbara Tea Party Responds to ClimateGate.
(Santa Barbara, CA – November 24, 2009) As news breaks about ClimateGate – the release of UN-IPCC emails and documents showing that Al Gore’s Anthropogenic Global Warming Theory (AGW) was the product of purposely manipulated “data” by shady “scientists” – Santa Barbara Tea Party joins Congressional leaders and others who are demanding an investigation and the review of the eco-politics that are driving so many aspects of our economy under the current Administration.
“We agree that ClimateGate is the biggest scandal in modern science,” said Barbara Miller, SBTP Board member. “Nice people believed Gore’s hysterical propaganda. Waking up to being conned is not fun. The good news is that we Americans will be able to exhale – with a clear conscience.”
Since Gore introduced the AGW Theory after he lost the Presidential Election in 2000, it has spawned an environmental movement and industry that has been given top global priority. His film “Inconvenient Truth” purported that the planet was imminently doomed because of carbon dioxide, and the answer was to regulate carbon.
“Looking back, it was odd,” remarked Mrs. Miller, “Suddenly we were carbon footprints. Then the Warming fad spun out of control. Tiny children were crying about Greenland melting. Now the Administration wants everything Green, Green, Green, and pushing Cap & Trade.”
SBTP is concerned that the Cap & Trade bill is overloaded with taxation and will kill the already fragile economy. It is based on the AGW Theory. The nonpartisan group hosted the Santa Barbara Premiere of film, “Not Evil, Just Wrong,” at Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort on November 13. The two month-old documentary rebuts AGW, and it easily demonstrates the flaws in their data interpretation. A Canadian mathematician featured in the movie was mentioned in at least one of the ClimateGate emails. He has used the Warmists’ own global temperature data and showed that the infamous “Hockey Stick” graph of increasing global temperatures is nonsense.
Given that AGW Theory has essentially been debunked as fraud, lawsuits are being filed, and protests are mounting worldwide complaining it was a scam, SBTP, along with tea partiers nationwide, are calling for a halt to the Cap & Trade taxation proposals that are moving through Congress and similar bills that are being processed in state legislatures.
“Taking a second look at AGW before any more damage is done seems like the reasonable thing to do,” Mrs. Miller says. “We also deserve an apology. It’s time again for worry-free, guilt-free inhaling and exhaling. We owe it to our children and our grandchildren.”
What’s Next Re the Healthcare Bill After 11.21.09 Cloture Vote?
SBTP’s “Dolly Madison” Quote du Jour [paraphrasing Charles Health, Sarah Palin's Dad]: “We aren’t retreating, we’re reloading.”
HEALTHCARE
Thank you for your efforts.
NEWS: Our side lost the Cloture on a partisan vote 60-39. The missing GOP vote was Ohio Republican George Voinovich, an opponent of the bill who announced that he would skip the vote for a thirtieth anniversary celebration of his election as Cleveland mayor.
NEWS: What’s Next? Thanksgiving Break. Senate reconvenes on November 30. The Biggest Cloture vote will take place at the end of the Debate weeks from now. That’s when it all counts. If Reid doesn’t get the votes for Cloture at the end of the debate and amendments, the bill dies.
INFO: Senate Rules are totally different than House Rules. Senate Rules permit all kinds of amendments, so, over the course ot the debate, we will see amendments that will test the Democratic majority and this bill. Getting a bill off the Senate floor is extremely difficult. If the Bill makes it out of the Senate, it goes back to the House for reconciliation.
ON THE HORIZON: In addition to China’s concerns about their investments in America, Governors should be speaking out, since the bill places massive unfunded mandates on their already financially strapped states.
ACTION: Stay tuned. Feel free to call the Senators who voted for the HC bill and ask them to reconsider.
Candidate for Capps’s Seat to Announce
Sarah Palin Breaking Records
SARAH PALIN: Going Rogue is Number One on numerous lists. First day post publication sales: 300,000 (her advance was $1.25 million) beat out Hillary Clinton’s 200,000 (her advance was $8 million – and the buzz was that her 1 million in sales the first month broke all records) and challenged Bill Clinton’s 400,000 (his advance was $15 million – and sold 2.25 million). MSM counts do not mention Palin’s pre-sales of one million. Harper Collins announced the book is in its second press run, for a total run of 2.5 million books in print by Christmas. This success is happening, despite the fact that some Progressive booksellers (notably in San Francisco) have refused to stock the book, but will be promoting their parody, “Going Rouge,” a coloring book. Sarah’s book tour will end at Fort Hood. http://www.dailybreeze.com/ci_13836041
SBTP Christmas Party 12.13.09
Notes from American History for November & December
November 1776 – British score victories over the rebelling colonists. Thomas Payne writes.”These are the times that try men’s souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country: but he that stands it NOW deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like Hell, is not easily conquered. Yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.”
December 25-26, 1776 – Washington crosses the Delaware. Huge win is a morale booster. In 1777, a series of unlikely victories begin for the outnumbered colonists.
Copenhagen Summit May Be Postponed
( November 14 2009 - National Tea Party Coalition ) Major Garrett reporting from Korea where he is with the press pool from Washington D.C. following the President announced that it appears the Copenhagen Summit may a wash for next month. This is what was said by Lars Rasmussen the Dutch Prime Minister and lead on the climate change summit in Copenhagen next month”
Froman told the traveling White House pool reporters the following:
“There was a general consensus of support for what Rasmussen laid out. He called it one agreement, two steps. Copenhagen (UN Climate Change talks) would be the first step in a process toward an international binding agreement.”
Rasmussen, in a tacit admission the Copenhagen process will not result in a full-blown global treaty on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, told the assembled leaders he will instead seek a politically “binding agreement that would cover all the major elements of the negotiations including mitigation, adaption, technology and finance.”
Froman told the travel pool that there was “widespread consensus among leaders that Copenhagen be a success” and that it produce evidence of “real concrete progress.”
And to further highlight the issues facing the Copenhagen process:
The Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen will also attend the breakfast, though Denmark is not an APEC member. Rasmussen leads the Conference of the Parties of 15, which is the overseeing body of UN-sponsored climate change talks aimed at developing global limits to greenhouse gas emissions at the mid-December UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.
“The purpose of the meeting is to review where the (climate change) negotiations stand and the path forward,” a White House official said.
Climate change negotiations have already bogged down and realists predict no global pact this December, prompting open recognition of the need for another conference in 2010.
Armed with information that shows Green as the New Red, we continue to focus on fighting Boxer on Cap & Trade.
Santa Barbara’s Exclusive Premiere of “Not Evil, Just Wrong“will be Hosted by Santa Barbara Tea Party & Coalition of Area Groups as Cinematic Centerpiece of “Something’s Fishy” Benefit for Central Valley Farmers on November 13
(October 24, 2009 – Santa Barbara, CA) As the cinematic centerpiece of their “Something’s Fishy” Benefit for Central Valley Farmers who have been victimized by a Court Ruling Shutting off their Irrigation Water purportedly to save Delta Smelt, Santa Barbara Tea Party – in association with a coalition of area nonprofits and businesses – will host the Exclusive Santa Barbara Premiere of the popular film,” Not Evil, Just Wrong.” Guest speakers include farmers from the Central Valley, who will tell the “inside story” about why an area that once supplied food to the nation is now called “the Dust Bowl of California.”
“Alarm bells are going off for everyone when they hear our food supply is being shut down by extremists who have made US agriculture the enemy,” remarked Diana Thorn, Vice President of SBTP. “Who wouldn’t be concerned? Our families don’t want rationed or imported food. It’s time to say, ‘This cult has gone too far.’”
Not Evil Just Wrong tells its story from the perspective of ordinary human beings who want the best for their families. With the aid of the documentary, the event will focus on the evolution of the Environmental Movement over the past forty years and how it has ultimately impacted turning 500,000 acres in the San Joaquin Valley into parched earth. It will also launch the local tea party’s campaign associated with the national debate on Cap and Trade legislation, which both proponents and critics agree will significantly increase energy costs to consumers, damage American commerce, stir inflation, and reduce America’s world leadership as a superpower via punitive “environmental justice” assessments against our past use of energy.
“It’s not a mainstream Hollywood documentary,” says Ann McElhinney, one of the filmmakers. “It features real people, and the real impact on their lives.”
Since “Not Evil, Just Wrong” was released on October 17, the film has seized the attention of millions of Americans searching for Truth amid Hysterical “Doomsday” Rhetoric. Using hard evidence and facts –purposely presented calmly without hyperbole and fear-mongering – the 85 minute documentary shows how extreme environmentalism is harming the lives of the most vulnerable populations in the developed and developing world. Examples from Indiana to Uganda illustrate that Global Warming “solutions” are destroying jobs, livelihoods and entire cities.
“Something’s Fishy” is scheduled for Friday, November 13, at 7PM in the Sierra Madre Room at Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort; 633 East Cabrillo Boulevard; Santa Barbara, CA. It is open to the public. Due to limited seating, reservations are required. $10 Admission, popcorn included, and a Silent Auction is planned. RSVP to coordinator@santabarbarateaparty.com.

SBTP Returns to Las Positas @ State for Healthcare Rally
(Santa Barbara, CA – September 23, 2009) On the heels of a dynamic demonstration last week to defend America’s Free Press from government tampering, SBTP is taking to the streets again this weekend to protest the Administration’s plan to transfer our Healthcare System into the control of the already overcommitted Executive Branch. Polls show opposition growing to the proposal, as citizens throughout the country have become increasingly distressed about the Administration’s attempt to take 16% of America’s economy out of the hands of patients, doctors and private enterprise and place it into the hands of government bureaucrats.
The nonpartisan, grassroots group will hold another popular “Honk-in” style Rally at the intersection of State and Las Positas this Saturday, September 26, between 2 and 4 PM. Signs and flags are integral to this event. SBTP encourages clever, humorous homemade signs in keeping with national tea party etiquette. Although Healthcare is the focus, sign makers are welcome to address other concerns. Free Parking in adjacent US Armory lot at Las Positas Entrance. Directions: Take Highway 101 to Las Positas Exit.

(Santa Barbara, CA – September 16, 2009) SBTP has planned a Spontaneous “Honk Your Horn for Freedom” Rally to be held this coming Saturday, September 19, between 2 and 4PM at the intersection of State and Las Positas. The nonpartisan group is protesting the media blackout that occurred when an estimated 2 million plus Americans – who traveled to Washington, DC to express their dissatisfaction with policies of the Administration – were virtually ignored by the main stream media. News of the record-setting historic event, brought together by a coalition of national tea party groups and others concerned about the country’s future, was suppressed by the MSM and dismissed by White House spokesmen. In response, rallies are happening all over the country to defend America’s free press and grassroots participatory democracy.
According to SBTP Steering Committee Member Rolland Jacks, “We could not stand by in silence after millions of our fellow Americans were treated as second class citizens by some members of the media, who deemed them undeserving to be heard and denied them a voice. We are grateful for all those in our local media who are maintaining their constitutional independence and respecting and defending America’s freedoms – at a truly defining time in our nation. We invite liberty-lovers to join us for this important rally.”
AMERICA SPEAKS! 912DC: 2.1 Million March on Washington. Attendance Breaks Records; Tea Partiers Unite Across Country
SBTP Delegations Participate in 912 Demonstrations
(Santa Barbara, CA – September 13, 2009) SBTP supported 912 demonstrations with delegations to 912DC in Washington, DC, and 912West in LA.
[DC| Videos and aerial photos from DC on 912 document that the nation's capital was invaded by millions of tea partiers and other patriots. Brought together by a coalition of tea party groups and the need to unify against out of control spending by Congress and the unmistakable move by the Administration toward socialism, 912DC was an historic moment in America.
According to our boots on the ground, there was "no place you could go without finding tea partiers." Delegates also emailed that Capitol Park Police estimated the Mall attendance at 2.1 million. Reliable sources report that our fellow tea partiers completely closed down Pennsylvania Avenue and that the record-breaking crowds exceeded all expectations. For 912 news, visit http://nicedeb.wordpress.com/2009/09/12/912-march-on-washington/. Watch for the inventive signs!
[LA] The busload of SBTP members, who traveled to the Federal Building at 11000 Wilshire Boulevard in West LA to support the 912DC patriots, participated in a fabulous rally with energizing speakers and The 912 Honk for Freedom Wilshire Demonstration. There number of honkers was encouraging. It was a beautiful, sunny day around 75 degrees, the traffic was light, and SBTP members met and engaged with several thousand tea partiers from around the state and others who attended from as far away as New York and Alaska. Only one person protested against us; he had a bullhorn and spewed some tired slogans.
For a wee peek into the revitalizing event videotaped by a member of one of the tea party groups with which SBTP is affiliated, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6AvlzdIa-Q. One fun aspect of the Rally: Tea partiers photographing each other’s signs. Creating a really hip sign is part of the Tea Party Experience.

SBTP Response to Obama’s Planned Address to America’s K-12 Students on Tuesday, 9/8/9
(Santa Barbara, CA – Friday, September 4, 2009) Santa Barbara News-Press printed the following comment from SBTP in a front page story, entitled NO-BAMA, published Saturday, September 5.
Regarding Obama’s controversial planned address to K-12 Students on September 8, SBTP Spokesman and Steering Committee Member William Davies responded, “Given the fact that the President’s message appears to be more indoctrination than education, the national tea party coalition is suggesting that parents take action. Parents have the right, by law, to demand that their children not be forced to participate in the televised propaganda session and associated homework and may remove their children from school for the day. It is an excellent opportunity for parents to discuss why people from all over the world have flocked to America to pursue personal and economic liberty, free from tyranny and socialism.”
Congresswoman Capps Holds Long-Awaited Healthcare Forum in Santa Barbara Today
(Santa Barbara, CA – September 2, 2009) – With intense, often heated, national and local debate regarding HR 3200 – and the prospect that the bill is making its way to the floor of the US House of Representatives for a vote – Congresswoman Capps’s Santa Barbara Healthcare Forum – limited to 210 participants – will undoubtedly leave thousands of concerned constituents and hundreds of members of Santa Barbara Tea Party & CS on the outside looking in today.
As a member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, Mrs. Capps voted in favor of the increasingly unpopular HR 3200 and added a now controversial Amendment significantly expanding abortion coverage to be paid by taxpayers. The issue will be among the topics the Townhall will address, along with the estimated half trillion plus dollar cuts in Medicare to help pay for the government plan; the generational burden of trillions of $$ in new spending; rationing of care, especially for the nation’s Elders; and the to date refusal by Mrs. Capps to replace her platinum Congressional healthcare plan with the HR 3200 version, should it pass.
Santa Barbara Tea Party & CS has not scheduled a protest of the event. We are encouraging our usual respectful stance.
The Media Advisory from Mrs. Capps’s office calls for prohibition of protest signs inside the Hall, but signs are permitted outside the Hall.
Congresswoman Capps Sets Long-Awaited Health Care Forum for September 2 in Santa Barbara
(Santa Barbara, CA – August 31, 2009) “It is encouraging that our Congresswoman has returned from her hiatus and is willing to engage in dialogue with even a small contingent of her constituents. Throughout the country and here in Santa Barbara, extremely worried citizens have expressed growing concern to tea party volunteers that HR 3200 – which Mrs. Capps supports – will ration their health care and create a far larger crisis than it is supposed to fix. A standing room only crowd of close to 500 at our August 21 Health Care Forum revealed – at the very least – the need for far more debate and serious scrutiny of the proposed thousand-plus pages of legislation impacting three hundred million Americans – and perhaps starting over with a fresh slate to remove confusion and special interests. The space – which restricts participation to 210 attendees – and time allotted by Mrs. Capps to her Santa Barbara constituents on this life and death issue may not be adequate for the number of citizens and the concerns they have about her actions regarding any health care legislation.” – Heather Bryden, Coordinator, on Behalf of Santa Barbara Tea Party & Culpepper Society
We encourage SBTP & CS members to communicate their own views in our tradition of cogent, reasoned Letters to the Editor in the print media as well as to electronic media venues regarding our Congresswoman’s Forum.
The following Media Advisory was received FROM Congresswoman Capps’s Office – Emailed to SBTP at 9:50 AM by Media :

ELDERS & BOOMERS : TAKE BACK AMERICA CAMPAIGN TAKE ACTION :
For National Distribution
AARP is said to be one of the country’s top ten largest companies. It has become a player in promoting the HC Bill. If every AARP member cancels their membership and demands a refund, which is justified because AARP tried to sell them out on HC legislation, pressure will be put on AARP to come out against government takeover of HC. This effort is part of a national campaign by coalition of advocates for elders and boomers and tea parties countrywide. Please look into: http://www.amac.us/

Pro-Choice Health Care Petition Drive & National Campaign
(Santa Barbara, CA – July 2, 2009) In response to the call for a National Campaign to Defeat Government-Run Health Care, SBTP & CS will launch a Petition Drive at their Wild West Show & Freedom Rally on July 3. Calling the Administration’s Bill, H.R. 676, the one of the biggest threats to personal liberty that has ever been proposed in the history of the United States, the group stated that the legislation would increase taxes and national debt, would prohibit choice, has the goal of closing down private sector coverage, and would leave decisions of life and death and suffering up to Big Government Bureaucracy. In addition, the bill poses extreme moral and ethical dilemmas, requiring careful consideration and review for long term repercussions and unintended consequences. SBTP & CS Petition Drive will conclude on July 13, so petitions will be included in a nationally synchronized Presentation by a Local Delegation at the Office of the District Office of their Congressman on July 17.
Please fax Petitions (no matter how few signatures; they all count) to 805.963.3561 or Mail to Tea Party; c/o 1072 Casitas Pass Road, Box 179; Carpinteria, CA 93013.

Radio Personality Tammy Bruce To Emcee Rally For Santa Barbara’s Big, Cool Tea Party

Talk show host Tammy Bruce has added national panache to Santa Barbara’s Big, Cool Tea Party this Saturday. According to SBCTP Committee Member, Maureen Murphy, Ms. Bruce agreed to join in the tax revolt group’s event yesterday. “We were just thrilled she gave the OK. She originally couldn’t come because of travel plans, but she changed them to attend the event.”
Flagshipped at KABC Radio and nationally syndicated with 153 affiliates, Ms. Bruce’s show premiered in Los Angeles in 1993 and has been running six days a week ever since. The popular, often witty communicator is the author of three best sellers on social issues, “The Death of Right and Wrong,” “The New Thought Police,” and “The New American Revolution.” A native of Los Angeles, she is well regarded as a political analyst, who consistently argues that Americans’ freedom of expression and personal liberty are under attack.
Other speakers include Hollywood screenwriter Andrew Klavan, COLAB Executive Director Andy Caldwell, Senator George Runner, Lompoc Mayor Richard De Wees, Senator Tony Strickland, Past President of Santa Barbara Taxpayers Association Joe Armendariz, Gabriella Murrilo, and Erin Graffy de Garcia. The rally’s headliner is singer-songwriter Lloyd Marcus, who will perform his latest hit, “The American Tea Party Anthem.”
The ambitious local version of the growing national grassroots tax revolt movement begins with a march lead by American Revolutionary War Hero, Paul Revere (portrayed by Tony Browning), on horseback and ends with the rally. Organizers estimate the event will draw 1,500 participants from throughout the region and predict it will be an historic day for Santa Barbara. The tea party starts at the Courthouse at 2:30 PM. It is a family friendly event. Visit santabarbaracountyteaparty.org.
