What’s Next Re the Healthcare Bill After 11.21.09 Cloture Vote?
SBTP’s “Dolly Madison” Quote du Jour [paraphrasing Charles Health, Sarah Palin's Dad]: “We aren’t retreating, we’re reloading.”
HEALTHCARE
Thank you for your efforts.
NEWS: Our side lost the Cloture on a partisan vote 60-39. The missing GOP vote was Ohio Republican George Voinovich, an opponent of the bill who announced that he would skip the vote for a thirtieth anniversary celebration of his election as Cleveland mayor.
NEWS: What’s Next? Thanksgiving Break. Senate reconvenes on November 30. The Biggest Cloture vote will take place at the end of the Debate weeks from now. That’s when it all counts. If Reid doesn’t get the votes for Cloture at the end of the debate and amendments, the bill dies.
INFO: Senate Rules are totally different than House Rules. Senate Rules permit all kinds of amendments, so, over the course ot the debate, we will see amendments that will test the Democratic majority and this bill. Getting a bill off the Senate floor is extremely difficult. If the Bill makes it out of the Senate, it goes back to the House for reconciliation.
ON THE HORIZON: In addition to China’s concerns about their investments in America, Governors should be speaking out, since the bill places massive unfunded mandates on their already financially strapped states.
ACTION: Stay tuned. Feel free to call the Senators who voted for the HC bill and ask them to reconsider.
Candidate for Capps’s Seat to Announce
Sarah Palin Breaking Records
SARAH PALIN: Going Rogue is Number One on numerous lists. First day post publication sales: 300,000 (her advance was $1.25 million) beat out Hillary Clinton’s 200,000 (her advance was $8 million – and the buzz was that her 1 million in sales the first month broke all records) and challenged Bill Clinton’s 400,000 (his advance was $15 million – and sold 2.25 million). MSM counts do not mention Palin’s pre-sales of one million. Harper Collins announced the book is in its second press run, for a total run of 2.5 million books in print by Christmas. This success is happening, despite the fact that some Progressive booksellers (notably in San Francisco) have refused to stock the book, but will be promoting their parody, “Going Rouge,” a coloring book. Sarah’s book tour will end at Fort Hood. http://www.dailybreeze.com/ci_13836041
SBTP Christmas Party 12.13.09
Notes from American History for November & December
November 1776 – British score victories over the rebelling colonists. Thomas Payne writes.”These are the times that try men’s souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country: but he that stands it NOW deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like Hell, is not easily conquered. Yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.”
December 25-26, 1776 – Washington crosses the Delaware. Huge win is a morale booster. In 1777, a series of unlikely victories begin for the outnumbered colonists.

SBTP Returns to Las Positas @ State for Healthcare Rally
(Santa Barbara, CA – September 22, 2009) On the heels of a dynamic demonstration last week to defend America’s Free Press from government tampering, SBTP is taking to the streets again this weekend to protest the Administration’s plan to transfer our Healthcare System into the control of the already overcommitted Executive Branch. Polls show opposition growing to the proposal, as citizens throughout the country have become increasingly distressed about the Administration’s attempt to take 16% of America’s economy out of the hands of patients, doctors and private enterprise and place it into the hands of government bureaucrats.
The nonpartisan, grassroots group will hold another popular “Honk-in” style Rally at the intersection of State and Las Positas this Saturday, September 26, between 2 and 4 PM. Signs and flags are integral to this event. SBTP encourages clever, humorous homemade signs in keeping with national tea party etiquette. Although Healthcare is the focus, sign makers are welcome to address other concerns. Free Parking in adjacent US Armory lot at Las Positas Entrance. Directions: Take Highway 101 to Las Positas Exit.
Local Tea Partiers Rally to Defend America’s Free Press
(Santa Barbara, CA – September 16, 2009) SBTP has planned a Spontaneous “Honk Your Horn for Freedom” Rally to be held this coming Saturday, September 19, between 2 and 4PM at the intersection of State and Las Positas. The nonpartisan group is protesting the media blackout that occurred when an estimated 2 million plus Americans – who traveled to Washington, DC to express their dissatisfaction with policies of the Administration – were virtually ignored by the main stream media. News of the record-setting historic event, brought together by a coalition of national tea party groups and others concerned about the country’s future, was suppressed by the MSM and dismissed by White House spokesmen. In response, rallies are happening all over the country to defend America’s free press and grassroots participatory democracy.
According to SBTP Steering Committee Member Rolland Jacks, “We could not stand by in silence after millions of our fellow Americans were treated as second class citizens by some members of the media, who deemed them undeserving to be heard and denied them a voice. We are grateful for all those in our local media who are maintaining their constitutional independence and respecting and defending America’s freedoms – at a truly defining time in our nation. We invite liberty-lovers to join us for this important rally.”
AMERICA SPEAKS! 912DC: 2.1 Million March on Washington. Attendance Breaks Records; Tea Partiers Unite Across Country
SBTP Delegations Participate in 912 Demonstrations
(Santa Barbara, CA – September 13, 2009) SBTP supported 912 demonstrations with delegations to 912DC in Washington, DC, and 912West in LA.
[DC| Videos and aerial photos from DC on 912 document that the nation's capital was invaded by millions of tea partiers and other patriots. Brought together by a coalition of tea party groups and the need to unify against out of control spending by Congress and the unmistakable move by the Administration toward socialism, 912DC was an historic moment in America.
According to our boots on the ground, there was "no place you could go without finding tea partiers." Delegates also emailed that Capitol Park Police estimated the Mall attendance at 2.1 million. Reliable sources report that our fellow tea partiers completely closed down Pennsylvania Avenue and that the record-breaking crowds exceeded all expectations. For 912 news, visit http://nicedeb.wordpress.com/2009/09/12/912-march-on-washington/. Watch for the inventive signs!
[LA] The busload of SBTP members, who traveled to the Federal Building at 11000 Wilshire Boulevard in West LA to support the 912DC patriots, participated in a fabulous rally with energizing speakers and The 912 Honk for Freedom Wilshire Demonstration. There number of honkers was encouraging. It was a beautiful, sunny day around 75 degrees, the traffic was light, and SBTP members met and engaged with several thousand tea partiers from around the state and others who attended from as far away as New York and Alaska. Only one person protested against us; he had a bullhorn and spewed some tired slogans.
For a wee peek into the revitalizing event videotaped by a member of one of the tea party groups with which SBTP is affiliated, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6AvlzdIa-Q. One fun aspect of the Rally: Tea partiers photographing each other’s signs. Creating a really hip sign is part of the Tea Party Experience.

SBTP Response to Obama’s Planned Address to America’s K-12 Students on Tuesday, 9/8/9
(Santa Barbara, CA – Friday, September 4, 2009) Santa Barbara News-Press printed the following comment from SBTP in a front page story, entitled NO-BAMA, published Saturday, September 5.
Regarding Obama’s controversial planned address to K-12 Students on September 8, SBTP Spokesman and Steering Committee Member William Davies responded, “Given the fact that the President’s message appears to be more indoctrination than education, the national tea party coalition is suggesting that parents take action. Parents have the right, by law, to demand that their children not be forced to participate in the televised propaganda session and associated homework and may remove their children from school for the day. It is an excellent opportunity for parents to discuss why people from all over the world have flocked to America to pursue personal and economic liberty, free from tyranny and socialism.”
Congresswoman Capps Holds Long-Awaited Healthcare Forum in Santa Barbara Today
(Santa Barbara, CA – September 2, 2009) – With intense, often heated, national and local debate regarding HR 3200 – and the prospect that the bill is making its way to the floor of the US House of Representatives for a vote – Congresswoman Capps’s Santa Barbara Healthcare Forum – limited to 210 participants – will undoubtedly leave thousands of concerned constituents and hundreds of members of Santa Barbara Tea Party & CS on the outside looking in today.
As a member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, Mrs. Capps voted in favor of the increasingly unpopular HR 3200 and added a now controversial Amendment significantly expanding abortion coverage to be paid by taxpayers. The issue will be among the topics the Townhall will address, along with the estimated half trillion plus dollar cuts in Medicare to help pay for the government plan; the generational burden of trillions of $$ in new spending; rationing of care, especially for the nation’s Elders; and the to date refusal by Mrs. Capps to replace her platinum Congressional healthcare plan with the HR 3200 version, should it pass.
Santa Barbara Tea Party & CS has not scheduled a protest of the event. We are encouraging our usual respectful stance.
The following Media Advisory was received FROM Congresswoman Capps’s Office – Emailed to SBTP at 9:50 AM by Media :” Capps to Host Community Information Session on Comprehensive Health Insurance Reform in Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, CA – Congresswoman Lois Capps will co-host an information session on comprehensive health insurance reform for residents of the 23rd Congressional District on Wednesday, September 2nd from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at First United Methodist Church, 305 E. Anapamu St. in Santa Barbara. Joining Capps in co-hosting this event are local faith community members, including Pastor Hillary Chrisley, of the First United Methodist Church. The League of Women Voters of Santa Barbara Education Fund will also assist in administering this event. Capps will discuss comprehensive health insurance reform legislation being considered by Congress, the America’s Affordable Health Choices Act (H.R. 3200), and answer audience questions about the legislation. ”

ELDERS & BOOMERS : TAKE BACK AMERICA CAMPAIGN TAKE ACTION :
For National Distribution
AARP is said to be one of the country’s top ten largest companies. It has become a player in promoting the HC Bill. If every AARP member cancels their membership and demands a refund, which is justified because AARP tried to sell them out on HC legislation, pressure will be put on AARP to come out against government takeover of HC. This effort is part of a national campaign by coalition of advocates for elders and boomers and tea parties countrywide. Please look into: http://www.amac.us/

Pro-Choice Health Care Petition Drive & National Campaign
July 3 through July 16
Pro-Choice Health Care Petition Drive & National Campaign
(Santa Barbara, CA – July 2, 2009) In response to the call for a National Campaign to Defeat Government-Run Health Care, SBTP & CS will launch a Petition Drive at their Wild West Show & Freedom Rally on July 3. Calling the Administration’s Bill, H.R. 676, the one of the biggest threats to personal liberty that has ever been proposed in the history of the United States, the group stated that the legislation would increase taxes and national debt, would prohibit choice, has the goal of closing down private sector coverage, and would leave decisions of life and death and suffering up to Big Government Bureaucracy. In addition, the bill poses extreme moral and ethical dilemmas, requiring careful consideration and review for long term repercussions and unintended consequences. SBTP & CS Petition Drive will conclude on July 13, so petitions will be included in a nationally synchronized Presentation by a Local Delegation at the Office of the District Office of their Congressman on July 17.
Please fax Petitions (no matter how few signatures; they all count) to 805.963.3561 or Mail to Tea Party; c/o 1072 Casitas Pass Road, Box 179; Carpinteria, CA 93013.

Radio Personality Tammy Bruce To Emcee Rally For Santa Barbara’s Big, Cool Tea Party

Talk show host Tammy Bruce has added national panache to Santa Barbara’s Big, Cool Tea Party this Saturday. According to SBCTP Committee Member, Maureen Murphy, Ms. Bruce agreed to join in the tax revolt group’s event yesterday. “We were just thrilled she gave the OK. She originally couldn’t come because of travel plans, but she changed them to attend the event.”
Flagshipped at KABC Radio and nationally syndicated with 153 affiliates, Ms. Bruce’s show premiered in Los Angeles in 1993 and has been running six days a week ever since. The popular, often witty communicator is the author of three best sellers on social issues, “The Death of Right and Wrong,” “The New Thought Police,” and “The New American Revolution.” A native of Los Angeles, she is well regarded as a political analyst, who consistently argues that Americans’ freedom of expression and personal liberty are under attack.
Other speakers include Hollywood screenwriter Andrew Klavan, COLAB Executive Director Andy Caldwell, Senator George Runner, Lompoc Mayor Richard De Wees, Senator Tony Strickland, Past President of Santa Barbara Taxpayers Association Joe Armendariz, Gabriella Murrilo, and Erin Graffy de Garcia. The rally’s headliner is singer-songwriter Lloyd Marcus, who will perform his latest hit, “The American Tea Party Anthem.”
The ambitious local version of the growing national grassroots tax revolt movement begins with a march lead by American Revolutionary War Hero, Paul Revere (portrayed by Tony Browning), on horseback and ends with the rally. Organizers estimate the event will draw 1,500 participants from throughout the region and predict it will be an historic day for Santa Barbara. The tea party starts at the Courthouse at 2:30 PM. It is a family friendly event. Visit santabarbaracountyteaparty.org.
